Luggage Scales
For the frequent traveler or the traveler who travels with budget airlines, it would be very wise to purchase one or more luggage scales. Given the changes in the travel industry, and the luggage restrictions regarding carry on and checked luggage for each flight, the portable luggage scale is a must have travel accessory for any frequent traveler.
Two basic types exist, digital or analog. The most important consideration is the accuracy of the scale, and usually a digital scale is the most accurate, and the read out on this type is much easier. Since there is very little difference in the price of the two types, you should consider buying the digital version of the scale.
As you will be traveling with the scale, and using it to weigh additional luggage you will be returning with, be sure to choose a scale that will not add any significant amount of weight to your luggage’s weight. Also important, is to ensure that the scale will weigh up to the maximum weight you will be traveling with, and if you should want to use it for other purposes, buy one with an even higher limit.
Scales are available in pounds (lbs) and in kilograms (Kg). These are the popular units used by many manufacturers. It is also possible to get scales that measure in ounces (oz) and in grams (gm). It wll be convenient to have a carry case for the scale, as you will for any other digital piece of equipment. Choose a type that is easily handled and can be easily read without your having to bend.
Digital Luggage Scales
Some varieties of luggage scales offer other features such as a tape measure. This could be helpful to measure the dimensions of your luggage, which will help you comply with carry-on luggage requirements. Other features may be extra batteries, LED flashlight, and timer/alarm. If you only travel occasionally, a good quality, simple unit will be sufficient.
Portable luggage scales are probably the most useful type of luggage scale for home use, since it’s easy to store away and can be easily transported wherever you have a need for a luggage scale!
